Flowers for Students

Studying for exams can be hard work. A great way to reward the hard work of someone who has just completed a set of exams is by sending flowers. Whether it’s the completion of your recipient’s GCSEs, A Level exams, or a university course a bouquet is a thoughtful way to show how much you appreciate their hard work.

Ordering flowers for a university student is a lovely way of showing them that they are in your thoughts, despite any distance. eFlorist offers a nationwide delivery service, so you can ensure that your student receives a beautiful bouquet whichever university they are studying at.

As an extra boost to their spirits you could consider adding a hamper or a gift experience on to your flower delivery. This is a great way to treat your loved one without having to travel to be near to them.

Completing their exams is just the beginning, though. Soon your student relations and friends will be receiving the results of all their hard work. A personalised bouquet, handmade and hand-delivered by eFlorists local florists could add an extra spark to an already great day, or offer a pick-me-up if their results have not been as good as they expected. As eFlorist offers same day flower delivery (before 3 p.m. Monday-Saturday) you can order flowers online and have them delivered on the same day as the student received their results!

Of course, they couldn’t have come so far without their teachers. Why not order a bunch for them at the same time?

Celebrating a New Arrival

The arrival of a new baby is always a thrilling time! And throwing a baby shower celebration has become one of our favourite ideas to mark baby’s imminent arrival! That said, pulling together a good baby shower can be tough, so here are a few tips we gathered from our lovely florists.

Decorate with Flowers
Some new mums aren’t quite up for over-the-top baby shower decorations hanging from every nail and hook. Our florists loved their chic baby showers that shied away from pastel pinks and rubber ducks. Deck out the venue with tasteful flower arrangements (our online flower delivery service can drop them by on the day) and candles.

Bake it Up!

Lots of our florists enjoyed a “Tea and Cake” theme at their baby showers. Some even split the event, opening presents and cooing over baby stuff, before heading out to a stylish restaurant for a real treat dinner with their pals!

Favours
Baby shower favours are little keepsakes for guests to take home. We love the idea of giving each guest a quaint little bunch of flowers. Don’t worry about freshness – we’ll hand deliver them on the day.

Gifts
The rule of thumb with baby shower gifts is to include the receipt. Lots of party-planning friends or relatives can offer a little guidance, but don’t be offended if mum-to-be returns you gift – one of the four identical baby monitor sets she received!

We love flowers, and so will mum-to-be! Arrange a flower delivery via our online service and see her face light up!

Are Flowers Appropriate on Busy Hospital Wards?

Everything that goes in and out of a hospital is rightly subjected to the question of what healthy merits or negative elements are involved. Several years ago a number of hospitals took measures to ban or discourage flower deliveries to particular wards for reasons of hygiene, space and staff efficiency. But how valid are their reasons?

Main concerns didn’t focus around the flowers themselves, but with the water they sat in. Hospital staff claimed that harmful bacteria could grow in the water which, if spilt, could spread and create unsanitary conditions that could be detrimental to patient’s health. The issue of staff responsibility was also a deciding factor, with nurses time being better spent caring for patients rather than tending to floral gifts.

Most florists (us included) know just how much flowers can cheer up a sick relative or bring colourful well-wishes to a new mother. A great alternative to hospital flower deliveries is to arrange for flowers to be delivered to the patient’s home address upon discharge from the ward.

The general consensus amongst florists and hospitals alike seems to be that whilst no one is arguing against the beautiful sentiment of sending ‘Get Well’ flowers, the efficiency of a ward must always be the primary concern. Not sure whether to send flowers to your loved one’s hospital bedside? We work with local florists, so if the protocol of a local hospital urges against flower deliveries our florists will be well informed.

The Healing Power of Flowers

For thousands of years flowers have been used to bring cheer and happiness to events and occasions. This beautiful plant life can communicate sentiments and feelings and are often used as a way to express love in our relationships or to convey condolences when sending funeral flowers. They have the power to create a certain atmosphere and can cheer up a bland and neutral space. It has been reported that flowers can also have healing powers. Herbalists have used flowers and plants for thousands of years as medicines but even the presence of a stunning flower delivery has the power to restore someone back to health.

Studies have shown that flowers have the ability to reduce stress levels in people. A few years ago it was revealed by a study carried out by Rutgers University that flowers could be proven to reduce anxiety, agitation and depression in sufferers. In our hectic and fast paced lives it is good to know that a simple flower delivery can help to lift someone in times of stress and turmoil. We have all felt the uplifting effects that a beautiful flower arrangement can have and how it can change the atmosphere in a room. Sending flowers online is a great way to cheer someone up if they are having a difficult time.

Flowers have also been proven to help people to communicate and open up which is often an important part of the healing process when suffering from depression or stress.

At eFlorist we can help you to choose blooms that will bring a smile to your loved ones face.

Look to the Stars for Inspiration – Part 2

When choosing birthday flowers it can make the gesture all the more special by choosing flowers that represent a person’s star sign. Using inspiration from the stars here are some ideas for flower deliveries for cancerians, leos and virgos:

Cancer – 22nd June to 22nd July

Cancer is often described as one of the most emotional of the signs of the zodiac. They are often incurably romantic and you can sum up the cancerian personality in one word –  ‘sensitive’. In addition they are sociable, patient and loving.

These generous souls will love to be shown your appreciation of their thoughtfulness and loving nature with flowers by post. They will adore bouquets including the delphinium named after its dolphin shaped blooms.

Leo – 23rd July to 22nd August

This is the most extrovert, dominant and creative of all the star signs. Leos are also generous, warm hearted and loving. These honourable, strong and confident individuals think and act on a grand scale sponging up the limelight.

Match your flower delivery to the Leo’s big personality by choosing eye catching sunflowers. These blooms have the grand proportions, open sunny faces and symbolise happiness and affection.

Virgo – 23rd August to 23rd September

Virgos display strong attention to detail and are renowned for their diligent and meticulous characters. They can be very shy and modest but beneath the reserved and unassuming exterior they have a witty personality.

This intellectual, practical and often serious sign will love flower deliveries that appeal to their light-hearted side. Choose the daisy-like aster which has a wildflower quality.

At eFlorist.co.uk we offer same day flower deliveries.

The Language Of Flowers

The language of flowers is one of Britain’s most charming traditions. Today’s grandparents will remember a time when ‘saying it with flowers’ had a much more literal interpretation. A few of the meanings associated with different types of flowers survive to this day- rosemary for remembrance and red roses for romantic love, for instance, but once there was a whole thriving language of flowers.

It was used in Victorian times until quite recently to pass messages without words, especially between courting lovers who didn’t want to be caught by disapproving parents. The tradition goes back many centuries before that. We know that the language of flowers was alive in the medieval era, although meanings were probably more about moral concepts than romance.

Ordering flowers online isn’t a tradition that goes back hundreds of years, but passing messages through flowers is. While the meanings may be less literal than they used to be, a bright bouquet of orange roses and yellow daisies still clearly wishes happiness on the recipient. A wreath of white lilies still signifies grief.

We would love to see the language of flowers come back up to its full strength and richness of meaning, so with that in mind, here are a few of the more useful flower ‘words’.

Daffodils are for respect, and daisies for innocence. Sunflowers with their long stems represent high, lofty thoughts.

Hibiscus represents exotic, racy good looks. Honeysuckle is given to represent entangling, long-lived love.

Cabbage signifies wealth and profit. This isn’t as silly as it sounds. Small, ornamental heads from specialised cabbage strains are making their way into the more avant garde arrangements.

The snowdrops of early spring are given as a token of hope.
