Want to Make a Great Impression this Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you might be struggling to know what to get your other half. After all, the plethora of potential products available in shops can be confusing and daunting.

And you no doubt want to get something special to show your partner you really care for her. There are few occasions when such great emphasis is placed on romance and it is therefore crucial that you pull out all the stops.

For this reason, you might think that getting flowers is somehow not exceptional enough because so many people do it. This may well be true if you panic and end up buying flowers from the local petrol station at the last minute.

The simple and unimaginative arrangements often seen in such places are not exactly the stuff of dreams and your significant other might be distinctly underwhelmed by such an offering.

However, if you make the effort to organise an online florist delivery, you can take advantage of a fantastic range of bouquets that will really encapsulate your feelings.

For example, by ordering Valentine’s Day flowers here at eFlorist, you can choose between a variety of romantic floral offerings. As well as the traditional roses, there are many more products to make your selection from.

To see if we have anything that fits the bill, simply browse the relevant section of our website. You will not find it hard to find exactly what you are after and this simple process could help you create a February 14th to remember.

Caring for Your Bouquet

Florists are still a popular source of gift ideas and a flower delivery can really brighten a loved ones day. If you get a bunch of your favourite flowers you may wonder how you can make the lovely blooms last longer. Here are some care tips for some of the most popular flowers online:

Rose or Rosa?

Originally from China, roses are grown far and wide from the Far East to the States. They are available in a rainbow of colours except for true black and blue. Roses are some of the most popular blooms for online flower delivery in the UK.

Roses should look stunning for around a week however if your roses start to look a little limp you can pep them up again by standing the stems in a vase of deep warm water. Make sure you don’t damage the stems as this can prevent them drinking water efficiently. Also leave the thorns on the stems as removing them can leave open wounds and bacteria can cause the flowers to die.

Lily or Lilium Candidum?

It is believed that the Lily was first cultivated in the Middle Ages in China. There are some types of lily that have a powerful scent such as Oriental lilies whereas others such as the Asiatic lilies have eye catching colours but no scent.

You can prolong the life of lilies by removing the pollen stamens. This will also protect your clothes and soft furnishings as lilies pollen can stain.

At eFlorist.co.uk we offer a wide selection of flowers and a quality flower delivery service.

Where Did Your Flowers Come From?

We all love to see flowers in our homes, but have you ever stopped to think where the exotic flowers we buy come from? Although many flowers sold in florists shops are home grown, the demand for exotics and tropical flowers means that huge quantities of flowers are imported into the UK each year, with the majority coming from Kenya, Israel and Columbia.

Most of us only realised this when the Volcanic Ash cloud affected flights into the UK and we saw on the news that flowers in these countries had to be thrown away because they couldn’t be stored. Thankfully, this seems to have been resolved now and the flowers are back in the florists. So if you want to have flowers delivered you can either visit your florists and make your choice, or if sending flowers online is easier, you can use the internet to do this.

To return to the import aspect for a moment, all the flowers which come abroad have to adhere to the strict guidelines set down by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. This is to ensure that imported flowers and plants meet quality standards and as well as ensuring they are not carrying disease which are detrimental to native UK flowers and plants. Most of us don’t even think about this aspect when we are sending flowers online, but it’s hugely important that these tests are carried out. So the next time you are sending flowers online, remember all the work that has gone into making your flowers safe!

The First Choice for Any Occasion

What makes flowers so appealing is that there are hundreds to choose from, which makes it easy to select a person’s favourite flower or colour before adding your personal touch in the form of a card. Another reason why they are appealing to those who wish to buy a gift is that they can be bought just before a special event by sending flowers online, and as many companies offer same day flower deliveries, this is one of the best ways to mark a friend’s special day, whatever it may be.

If a friend or relative is in hospital, the florists is often the first place we turn to. Fresh plants or bouquets bring warmth and character to a room, as well as giving the person who is in hospital something bright and cheerful to look at. The scent from flowers also make a nice change from the traditional clinical smell we associate with hospital wards. But perhaps most important, the arrival of a bunch of flowers, whether you take them or use a flower delivery service, lets the patient know that you are thinking of them and are hoping their recovery will be a quick one.

Another reason for sending flowers is to congratulate an important work-related achievement. This can be to celebrate a new job or promotion, or perhaps even a retirement. In short, whatever the occasion, flowers have always been the first choice in marking the day and letting the person you send them to know you are thinking about them.

Avoid Forecourt Flowers

If you’re a man, there is a pretty good chance you are going to be in the dog house with your wife or girlfriend at some stage. When this happens the first thing you will think of doing is to buy flowers to make amends for whatever it is you have done to upset her. This is laudable, but don’t make the mistake that a lot of men do, which is to turn into the first petrol station they see and buy an arrangement from there.

They say it’s the thought that counts, but come on, think about it for a moment! Whatever it is you have done to upset her, do you really think a bunch of tired looking flowers wrapped in cheap cellophane and costing less than three quid is going to do the trick? No, it’s not. So, if you are going to do it, do it right and visit a florists where you will be able to choose from a great selection, and get some advice about which blooms are the most suitable.

If you are short of time and can’t make it to a florists shop, then why not use an online florist delivery? All you have to do is make the selection of your choice and you can have the flowers delivered while you are still at work. With a bit of luck, by the time you arrive home the atmosphere will have been thawed thanks to the flower delivery service and you’ll be back in her good books. Just remember: Garage Forecourt, No. Online Flower Shop, Yes!

Looking After Your Flowers

You’ve just received a beautiful arrangement of cut flowers, and you want to keep them looking fresh for as long as possible, so what do you have to do? The first thing to do is re-cut the stems at an angle of 45 degrees, taking off around one inch to make the take up water easier. The cells at the base of the stem tend to die off first, which means that water will not travel up to the flower. By cutting the stem at an angle this makes a larger surface area to draw water up, which is of course essential, but there is another reason for doing this.

Re-cutting also helps to remove blockages from the stem, caused by callusing or air embolisms.  Once the stems have been freshly cut, place the flowers gently into the vase containing the nutrient solution. Don’t drop them in as this can bruise the cut ends when they hit the bottom of the vase, again damaging the vascular system.

Placing the stems in deeper water will give the flowers a good drink before you arrange them in a vase. If flower food came with the arrangement, make sure you use it at the stated strength. This provides the flowers with nutrients such as potassium, phosphorous and nitrogen, and has anti bacterial properties to keep the water clean. If you follow these simple guidelines your arrangement will look beautiful for longer than you may have expected. If you want any further advice, talk to the people at your Florist Shop and they will be happy to help.
